How To: International SD-WAN and Edge Network Deployment

Mar 20, 2019

It’s no surprise that companies today struggle to identify the best-suited network for their business. It’s not a “one size fits all” world and especially companies with locations across borders, it’s not even a “one size fits” experience. Working with customers who have sites outside of North America and are needing international SD-WAN capabilities are running into the challenge of finding a network that can rely on local connectivity, application performance based on that connectivity, security, and overall latency performance connecting to the corporate network. This leads to ongoing challenges for companies to find a provider that not only makes performance happen, but does it outside of the western world’s technology.

Customer Examples

We’ve had the pleasure of working with companies who have locations across the globe. In fact, we have a customer we’re working with right now, Flir Systems, who has locations is over 25 countries alone. When we started working with the customer, they were struggling to identify how to make their network perform to today’s standards, while operating across multiple continents and varying service providers.

Flir chose to work with VMware’s SD-WAN by VeloCloud to upgrade their network and selected QOS Networks to be their managed network service provider, handling the design, delivery and ongoing support of their network. After working through their PoC, Flir chose to engage with QOS for their entire network overhaul.

The Process

To make it happen, we’ve created a handful of internal processes, global relationships, and standards that allow us to deliver international sites with SD-WAN and edge capabilities. With our inDeploy Automation Manager, QOS can pump out pre-configured devices to national or global location lists automatically and without manual intervention. This means QOS can handle thousands of sites, regardless of location. Our operations team is highly skilled with navigating international customs codes making the importing of your new devices a breeze.

QOS handles a number of process requirements for our customers that make international importing and exporting a massive headache. As the importer and exporter of record, QOS handles the entire front end process, the shipping, customs and declarations, taxes and tariffs, and of course, the onsite install of the network hardware.

Handling onsite support

QOS has a network across the globe of field services representatives, allowing QOS to handle onsite deployment and support needs. Regardless of the location, QOS has services available to manage and support your remote and global locations.
